Group 40-87 cm (0-13 kg)

This is a child's first car seat — portable, with a carry handle, and installed rearward-facing only. It is used from birth to roughly 12–15 months, or until the top of the child's head reaches the edge of the shell.

A newborn insert is essential; it reduces the depth of the seat and supports the head. It is usually included, but check the product description.

The seat can be secured with the car's seat belt or on an Isofix base. A base costs extra but greatly reduces the chance of an installation error and saves time every day.

Many seats in this group also mount onto a pram chassis using adapters, so a sleeping child does not have to be moved. Adapters are in the "Adapters and Isofix bases" section.

Important: never fit the seat in the front if the airbag cannot be switched off.
